What a beautiful day to patrol. Water was clear & plants are dying down. The low lake level made it difficult to access some areas, but all looks good. An interesting find (photo attached). It is attached to a submerged branch & seemed to be rather soft, though I didn’t really want to touch it! I wondered if it was a hornet nest but an AI search indicates it may be an amphibian egg mass, from a frog or salamander. Thoughts?

Ditto! Nice find.

Bette, you wil find a description of it on pg14 of the Native Plants guide. It is really neat to hold and investigate how it holds together.

Nice find - that spongy looking thing is a bryozoan colony! We’ve spotted them in Pennacook Cove and Dolloff Cove. They are good indicators of clean water.
