Ophyrdium—single celled protozoan

This is a colonial animal species that secretes a jellylike substance creating orbs of all sizes and they can stand alone or cluster along parts of any submerged aquatic plant. They are symbiotic with Chlorella, a micro-algae, which produces the green tint to the orbs.


They were found on several submerged plants in both Doloff and South Cove during August.
