Today I had some time and finished the patrol of zone 4 that I had started 10 days ago. The bright sky and calm water made viewing easy and enjoyable. As I traveled toward Blueberry Island I passed by what I think was Spike Rush and Tape Grass as seen in some of the photos. In some of the lower depth areas I was tricked by some Hemlock cones that had turned darker in the water and were lying in bunches on the lake floor. Thinking I had discovered some snails I pulled some out to discover they were only tiny Hemlock cones that had sunk down into the sand. Further along I found areas that included Floating Heart, Water Lily and what looked to be Common and Floating Bladderwort plants. While passing across from Blueberry Island I met a fellow shoreline neighbor which was nice as I am new to the area.
After rounding Blueberry Island I headed back toward home. When I was almost to shore I noticed something squishy and dark green growing on a rock, some submerged and some just peaking above the water, but mostly submerged. I pulled it off the rock and actually smelled it because I thought it might be decaying debris. It had an earthy smell, but wasn’t decaying needles and mud like I had thought. It had a moss-like quality to it and when I put in the dish I noticed little critters swimming around, probably upset with me for disturbing their mossy home! It appears to be Aquatic Moss. Once I got out of the water and looked at my map, I realized I had not done grid 84 in Zone 4! I’ll get that last area next time I am out as I learn my patrol boundaries.  Â
