Paige Brook

7/30 Patrolled the eastern half of Paige Brook last week including grids 33, 34, 38, 39, 40, 44, 45, 49, and 50 plus surveyed grids 22 and 27. There was quite an abundance of native aquatic plants. Both Purple Bladderwort (purple flowers) and Common Bladderwort (yellow flowers) were blooming. Observed both Native Water Naiad and a floating piece of Water Marigold for the first time this season. Really appreciated Don’s “Look Alikes” guide to remind me of the differences between Water Marigold and Invasive Fanwort and between Native Water Naiad and Invasive Spiny Naiad.

Nice Tim! Loved your descriptions and accompanying photos. Neat that you found 2 of the prominent bladderworts in the lake. Let us know if you find the 3rd called Floating Bladderwort (aka inflated bladderwort) that has the delicate yellow flower standing above the center of a whorl or raft of inflated branches which act as a float; its leaves are much finer than the common bladderwort. Cliff found one in your zone.
